ocr: Front Row, Beginnings Ernie was bom to Eddie and Essie Banks on January 31, 1931 in Dallas, Texas. He was astandoutin baseball, football, pasketball and track at Booker T.. Washington High School in Dallas, while also playing for the Detroit Colts, (a Negro baseball team), during the summer. Banks played with the Kansas City Monarchs of the NAL following graduation and later rejoined them after a brief time of service inthe U.S.Army.He played with the Monarchs until the Chicago Cubs acquired himin.1953, where he would spend the next 21 seasons. - (1992 Front Row
